Primary Science Tuition/ PSLE Science Tuition Teaching Methodology

It is not difficult to find a good Maths Tutor but it is very hard to find a good Science Tutor.  Why? Firstly, the demand for Primary Science Tuition/PSLE Science Tuition is the smallest and the hardest to find students compared to the other 3 subjects - English, Maths and Chinese. In some tuition centres, only Primary English Tuition and Primary Maths Tuition are offered but not Primary Science Tuition. Secondly, there is a special way of teaching Science that many tutors do not apply, including the school teachers. A good Primary Science Tutor teaches Science with the emphasis on the Science Keywords. What are Science keywords? For example, under the Topic Heat, the important keywords are "gains heat", "expands", "loses heat", "contracts", etc. For the structured questions (writing) in Section (B) paper, if you do not know your keywords well, you cannot answer the questions properly. 

My Primary Science Tuition/ PSLE Science Tuition focuses on drilling of keywords for each topic. When tackling Science Questions, students are taught to look out for the keywords in the question first in order to know what the question is looking for. For Section (B) structured questions, students will be taught which are the keywords required for each question and how to write a proper answer by linking the keywords together in a proper manner. 

If taught properly, Primary Science is in fact the easiest subject to score because there are 30 MCQs in Section (A) totaling 60 marks (2 marks for each question). If given proper guidance, it is not very hard to get 25 out of the 30 MCQs correct, which means to say that the student has already passed the Science examination (25X2=50). However, the student needs to put in a decent amount of effort and be very determined to get the keywords correct if he or she wants to improve from A to A* in Science. A is not hard to achieve for PSLE Science but A* is. On average, primary students who scored A* for PSLE Science need to go through two rounds of thorough revision for the Primary Science Notes and Concepts (P3-P6), school science files, assessment books and process skills questions from Top School Exam Papers.
